Today I Watched... AOC's Attack on the Medicine Price Discrepancy

In the United States, our healthcare is nowhere near as advanced as the healthcare of other countries that are also first-world countries. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an American politician, gave a speech pleading to Daniel O’Day, the CEO of the pharmaceutical company Gilhead, as to why his company’s anti-HIV medicine costs nearly $2000 a month in the US, but only $8 a month in other countries like Australia.

Her speech did cause some uproar amongst the capitalists, including Chip Roy. Roy stated that these private pharmaceuticals should be able to reap the profits from their hard work. In my opinion, I don’t think that these private companies should be able to upcharge their products for specific areas when the cost of production is the same or almost the same. There needs to be regulation throughout the entire world to fix this discrepancy. There are people suffering throughout the United States who can’t afford the medicine and it needs to stop.
