How the brand
This light black is a base for my entire website so that everything else pops. It is my foundation, a representative of my family.
This sky blue is very important to me. It represents my closeness to nature and the blue being the sky.
My Hexadecimal Values
This pastel orange shows my love for controversy. I like to spike up a conversation and orange shows the median between red and green.
This light green is one of my favorite colors. It is very bright and really stands out, something I strive to do; stand out.
This color represents consistency for me. This has always been one of my favorite colors growing up, and so I have associated it with consistency, something that will always remain constant.
The background was meant to be a dark grey circle to represent all of the undiscovered land and opportunities I have yet to discover. There is so much to learn and for me to soak in.
The outer layer is both a hexagon and a cube. The hexagon is something that has always interested me because it is the most efficient shape for an area to perimeter ratio; that’s why bees’ honeycombs are in the shape of a hexagon. The cube is meant to show how I look the same, no matter which face of the cube you look at. No matter, who someone is, I’ll make sure to act like myself and not act differently around certain people.
The hexagon/cube is split up into three regions, each one representing a different part of my life. The top, blue one is representative of my future. It is vibrant and this shade of blue (my 5th hex value) is representative of consistency and how I know I will be successful as long as I am consistent.
As the bottom of the cube, this supports everything, my foundation. This is my friends, who are with me every step of the way and have my back through everything. Without them, there is no foundation to the cube and my life would crumble.
The other end of my foundation is my family. The ones who actually take care of me and raised me to be who I am today. Without them, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in and would be a completely different person. They are the ones that taught me the right ethics and to live my life all in.
The inside is both a cube and my initials. MS. It is to show how everything can be viewed differently based on perspectives. It is a symbol for me, MS, to never look at anything in my single view, but to look at it from other people’s perspectives and get their input on it.
It all started on scrap sheets of paper I had in my backpack; so I started with nothing. Literally. I just started to think about possible logo designs and rummaged through my backpack for any scraps of paper that had enough space to depict the designs that were racing through my head. The picture above was the backside of an old worksheet from one of my classes.
I struggled through many iterations of my design until I started to think about my core elements; the hexagon and my 4 main colors. The hexagon is something that has always interested me, as someone who grew up being fascinated by math. Hexagons are everywhere, even bees use it to make their honeycombs. This led me into doing more research until I found out why; it has the largest ratio of area to perimeter out of all the shapes and is, therefore, very efficient to use.
Website V 1.0
This was my very first design I created for my website. On April 27, 2019, I sat down and drew what I thought would look like a good website. Then, I actually built the website.
I wanted to make my website stand out and feel different than all of the other websites. So, I got rid of the header and footer and put all of the tabs on the right side to make it unique. Not only this, but the human eye trained to read from left to right. Therefore, by putting the menu on the right opposed to the top or left, makes it so, statistically speaking, I would get more clicks than in any other position.
Our world is filled with paradigms. The borders are my paradigms, but I have complete freedom within it. The borders are meant to symbolize my limits, but they are tiny, showing that my ceiling is almost limitless.
For my font on most of my pages I chose Amatic SC to go for that relaxed, handwritten feel. This makes it feel more like me because I don't like when everything is overly strict and unforgiving. Everything that was in bold and red was meant to stand out to the reader's eyes. With the way our society is shaping up to be, nobody is really willing to read anything long. That's why putting the words in bold actually matter.
The HTML Style
As a curious teenager who loves to code, I wanted this website to reflect me as an individual. So, I implemented some lines of code that a person would need if they wanted to code in HTML. It is sort of an easter egg for those who know code.
First website design completed
Look below to see the changes I made between my original sketch and when it actually came to fruition. Most of the changes on this home screen were from tinkering around with the UI.
